Missouri Compromise | Louisiana purchase territory above Missouri's south border was free, Missouri was slave |
Nullification Doctrine | allowed states to declare federal laws void in its territory |
Tariff of 1828 | tax on imported goods, forced south to buy from north |
Tariff of 1832 | reduced tax from 1828 tariff |
Compromise of 1850 | Fugitive Slave law, CA union, 2 territories decide whether slave |
Fugitive Slave Law | Made escaped slaves not find much freedom |
Kansas-Nebraska Act | Both of these territories got power to decide to their slavery or not |
Nat Turner's Raid | Got other blacks to attack, raid failed |
John Brown's Raid | He gave weapons to blacks, raid failed |
Mexican War | war before the Civil War, got lots of territory |
Lincoln-Douglas Debates | For Presidential Election- 1860 |
Dred Scott Decision | He wasn't a citizen, so when he and his owner went to a free state and his owner died, he wasn't free. Also cancelled Missouri Compromise. |
Election of 1860 | Abraham Lincoln, made southerners mad- he was an abolitionist and a unionist. |
