physical property | Characteristic that can be observed or measured without changing the substance; Examples include color, melting point, and conductivity |
density | the amount of mass in a given volume |
state of matter | tells whether a sample of matter is a solid, liquid, or gas; depends on the temperature and pressure of the matter |
melting point | temperature at which a substance's state of matter changes from a solid to a liquid |
boiling point | temperature at which a substance's state of matter changes from a liquid to a gas |
chemical property | characteristic that can only be observed or measured when atoms of matter rearrange during a chemical change |
reactivity | how easily one thing reacts with something else |
mixture | substance that can be separated since it is a combination of materials |
physical change | any change in size, shape, form, or state where the identity of the matter stays the same |
chemical reaction | the process by which one or more substances change to produce one or more different substances |
solubility | the ability of a substance to dissolve |
pure substance | substance that cannot be separated since it is the same material throughout |
