Term | Definition |
Backchecking | Rushing back to the defensive zone in response to an opposing team's attack |
Blue line | The lines separating the attacking/defending zones from the neutral zone. |
Boarding | Checking a defenseless player causing them to violently fall/impact into the boards |
Center | A forward position whose primary zone of play is the middle of the ice |
Defenseman | One of two players that are positioned further back on the ice than the forwards |
Hooking | The act of impeding an opponent by placing the blade of a stick into their body |
Healthy scratch | An uninjured player on the roster who does not dress for a game. Only 20 players are allowed to dress for a game, players who are not going to play are considered scratches |
