Term | Definition |
constellation | A group of stars that form a fixed pattern is the night sky. |
axis | The imaginary line on which an object rotates. |
rotation | The spinning of an object on it's axis. |
revolution | The movement of an object around another object or point. |
star | A huge globe of gas that shines by it's own light. |
planet | A large body in space that revolves around a star and dosen't give off it's own light. |
refracting telescope | An instrument for viewing distant objects that uses 2 lenses to gather light and produce an image. |
reflecting telescope | An instrument for viewing distant objects that uses a curved mirror at the back of it's tube to gather light and produce an image. |
comet | A small object in space made of ice dust gas and rock that orbits a star and has a gaseous tail. |
meteor | A piece of rock or metal thatenters earth's atmosphere. |
geocentric model | A representation of the uuniverse where stars and planets revolve around earth. |
heliocentric model | A representation where the earth revolves arond the sun. |
