square root | A square root is one of two equal factors of a given number. Every number has a positive and a negative one. |
radical | The symbol, √ is used to indicate square roots. |
radicand | The quantity under a radical sign. |
perfect cube | The cube of a whole number. |
cube of a number | To calculate this you multiply the number by itself 3 times. |
cube root | One of 3 equal factors of a number. |
index | The number placed above and to the left of the radical to indicate what root is being calculated. |
variable | The use of letters or symbols in a mathematical sentence that are called... |
algebraic expression | A mathematical phrase involving at least one variable, and sometimes numbers and operation symbols. |
equation | A mathematical sentence that contains an equal sign. It can contain numbers, variables, or both in the same mathematical sentence. |
numerical coefficient | A number, or quantity, that is multiplied by a variable in an algebraic expression. |
constant | A number, or quantity, that does not change its value. |
evaluate an algebraic expression | To determine the value of the expression. |
multiple representations | This problem situation was represented in several ways: ● a diagram of figures ● a table of values ● a verbal description ● an algebraic expression ● a graph. |
