Question
Answer
The Nagi Model This model   was originally designed in 1965 by a social worker named Saad Nagi as an alternative to the medical model of disease.
🗑
The Nagi Model   It describes health status as a product of the relationship between health and function and is defined by four primary concepts:
🗑
The Nagi Model Pathology:   An interruption or interference in the bodyʼs normal processes and the simultaneous efforts of the systems to regain homeostasis. Pathology occurs at the cellular level.
🗑
The Nagi Model Impairment:   The loss or abnormality at the tissue, organ or body system level. This can be of an anatomic, physiologic, mental or emotional nature. Impairments occur at the organ level.
🗑
The Nagi Model Functional limitation:   The inability to perform an action or skill in a normal manner due to an impairment. Functional limitations are at the level of the whole person.
🗑
The Nagi Model Disability:   Any restriction or inability to perform a socially defined role within a social or physical environment due to an impairment. Environmental barriers impose disability.
🗑
The International Classification of Impairment, Disabilities, & Handicaps The   World Health Organization (WHO) developed this model in 1980 with the focus on the long-term impact of non-fatal or chronic diseases. The model is defined by four primary concepts:
🗑
(ICIDH Model) Disease:   A biomechanical, physiological or anatomical abnormality within the body.
🗑
(ICIDH Model) Impairment:   The loss or abnormality of psychological, physiological or anatomical structure or function. Impairments occur at the organ level.
🗑
(ICIDH Model) Disability:   The inability to perform an activity in a normal manner due to an impairment. Disability occurs at the level of the whole person.
🗑
(ICIDH Model)Handicap:   The inability to perform in a social role due to social or environmental restrictions. Handicap occurs in a person-to-person or person-to-environment level.
🗑
ICIDH Model)Handicap clearly separates environmental barriers and the personʼs ability to   interact with the environment.
