What does the imperfect tense denote?   The imperfect tense is the past form of the progressive system. It always indicates continuous or repeated action.

How is the imperfect indicative identified?   The imperfect indicative uses an augment, the present stem, then a secondary ending.

What is the augment?   In verbs that begin with a consonant, the augment consists of an ἐ as a prefix. In verbs that begin with a vowel, the augment normally consists in a lengthening of that vowel.

How are the first person singular and third person plural distinguished in the imperfect active indicative?   The first person singular and the third person plural of the imperfect active indicative are identical. They are distinguished by context.

Where is the augment in a compound verb?   In a compound verb the augment comes between the preposition and the stem.
