---|---|---|---|---|---|
cell | the basic unit of any living organism
🗑
prokaryotic cells | do not have a distinct nucleus or membrane bound organelles
🗑
eukaryotic cells | have a nucleus and organelles
🗑
organelles | structures in cells that carry out specific functions
🗑
cell membrane | flexible material that holds the contents of a cell; keeps bad things out of a cell and keeps the cytoplasm inside
🗑
cell wall | found in plant cells; rigid structure made of cellulose that adds support and structure to a cell
🗑
nucleus | the control center of the cell; where DNA is found
🗑
cytoplasm | the gelatin like fluid that holds all of the organelles
🗑
mitochondria | the powerhouse of the cell; digests nutrients and creates energy for the cell
🗑
chloroplasts | found only in plants; uses sunlight to create and store glucose
🗑
golgi body | acts like a packaging center to gather, sort and process simple molecules into more complex ones
🗑
lysosome | contains enzymes that help break down food and remove waste
🗑
vacuole | storage bin where water and food and waste can be stored; much larger in plants
🗑
ribosome | proteins are built here by connecting amino acids together
🗑
centriole | are important for cell division
🗑
smooth endoplasmic reticulum | acts as a transportation network in a cell; does not have ribosomes attached
🗑
rough endoplasmic reticulum | acts as a transportation network in a cell; has ribosomes attached
🗑
nucleolus | sphere shape found inside the nucleus that helps make ribosomes for the ER
🗑
autotroph | organism that can make its own food
🗑
heterotroph | organism that relies on other organisms for energy

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.
To hide a column, click on the column name.
To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.
You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.
Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
