Definition
Symbols   These are drawings that stand for something.

Cardinal directions   North, south, east and west

Oceans   The largest bodies of water. There are four of these.

Globe   This is a round model of the earth. It is in the shape of a sphere.

Longitude and latitude lines   These create a grid around the Earth that helps us locate places on the globe.

Intermediate directions   Northeast, Southeast, northwest, and southwest.

Map   A drawing of the place as you would see it from above.

Continents   The largest bodies of land on Earth. There are seven of them.  
🗑
Grid   This divides the map into small places and helps you find what you are looking for.

Scale   This allows maps to show distances. Ex. 1 inch= 1mile

Longitude lines   This circles the globe from the North pole to the South pole. The prime meridian is 0º longitude. It divides the Earth into Eastern and Western hemispheres.

Key or legend   This explains the symbols on a map.

Latitude lines   This circles the globe from side to side. The equator is 0º latitude. It divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern hemispheres.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.
 
To hide a column, click on the column name.
 
To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.
