What are the 4 main type of human tissue? | Epithelial, Connective, Muscle, Nervous
🗑
What is the function of Epithelial Tissue? | Epithelial tissue is the outer layer of tissue of an organ/organism that gives it protection. It can divide rapidly by mitosis to replace lost cells. eg: skin
🗑
What is the function of Connective tissue? | Connective tissue is used to connect various organs and tissues eg: tendons, ligaments, tendons, collagen
🗑
What is the function of Nervous tissue? | Nervous tissue is used to carry impulses around the body.
🗑
What are the 3 types of Muscle tissue? | 1: Involuntary: not under our conscious control eg intestinal muscle. 2: Skeletal: under our conscious control eg moves our body. 3: Cardiac: only found in the heart, never tires.
🗑
What are the 3 types of plant tissue? | Dermal tissue, Ground Tissue, Vascular Tissue
🗑
What is the function of dermal tissue? | Dermal tissue is the outer layer of a plant. It is for protection. These cells are often covered in a waxy substance celled cutin . The cuticle protects the plant from insects and prevents excess water loss.
🗑
What is the function of vascular tissue? | Vascular tissue transports material around the plant.
🗑
What are the 2 types of vascular tissue? | Xylem tissue and phloem tissue. Xylem transports water and phloem transports food.
🗑
What are the 2 types of xylem tissue? | Xylem vessels and xylem tracheids. Xylem vessels cytoplasm has rotted away leaving hollow tubes behind with no end walls. Their cell walls are strengthened by ligin. Xylem tracheids are narrower than xylem vessels and have tapered end walls.
🗑
What are the 3 components of phloem tissue? | Phloem tissue is made up of sieve tube, sieve plate and companion cells. Companion cells provide the energy needed to transport food.
🗑
What is the main different in terms of energy in the transport of food and water in a plant? | Water transport is a passive system while food transport is an active system.
🗑
Give 4 examples of plant organs and 2 examples of plant organ systems | Organs: Leaves, Flowers, Stems, Roots.
Organ Systems: Shoot system (above ground). Root system (below ground)
🗑
What is tissue culture? | Tissue culture is the growing of cells on sterile nutrient medium outside an organism.
🗑
How is plant tissue culture carried out? | 1: The plant is chopped into small pieces an placed in a nutrient medium. 2: Unspecialised cells called meristems divide rapidly by mitosis. 3: This lump of meristematic cells is broken up and each cell is placed in its own medium. 1 cell = 1 clone
🗑
What are the advantages of plant tissue culture? | 1:The production of a large number of plants in a short period of time. 2: The plants grown are genetically identical to its parent plant. 3: It is an inexpensive way to produce large numbers of similar plants.
🗑
Give one use of human tissue culture | Cancer research and producing skin grafts for burn victims.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.
To hide a column, click on the column name.
To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.
You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.
Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
