Variables | things in an experiment that can change and may affect the outcome of the experiment

Independent Variables | The one thing you deliberately manipulated, changed or tested for the purpose of the investigation.

Dependent Variables | variables that respond as a result of manipulating on or more independent variable; often what is measured or recorded in an experiment.

Controlled Variables | All the variables that a scientist wants to remain constant or stay the same throughout the investigation.

Evidence | Information gathered to support or defend a conclusion.

Hypothesis | A testable idea or prediction that leads to a scientific investigation.

Observation | Information gathered using the senses.

Inference | A conclusion or an assumption based on observations.

||||
Scientific Theory | an explanation for why things work or how things happen.

||||
Scientific Law | a statement based on repeated experimental observations that describes some aspects of the universe.

Control Group | The group in an investigation that does NOT get the independent variable.

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.
To hide a column, click on the column name.
To hide the entire table, click on the "Hide All" button.
You may also shuffle the rows of the table by clicking on the "Shuffle" button.
Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
If you know all the data on any row, you can temporarily remove it by tapping the trash can to the right of the row.
