Adding, Subtracting, Multiplying, and Dividing Integers Rules

Quiz yourself by thinking what should be in each of the black spaces below before clicking on it to display the answer.

Integers   All numbers on a number line, positive or negative.

Absolute Value   The value of an integer based on how far it is away from zero.

Adding Integers With the SAME signs   If the signs are the same, the you will add the integers and take the sign of the largest absolute value.

Adding Integers With DIFFERENT signs   If the signs are different, opposite, or not the same, then you will subtract the integers and take the sign of the largest absolute value.

Subtracting Integers   In subtraction whenever there are two negative signs or double negatives together, you will change BOTH to addition, then follow the addition rules.

Multiplying/Dividing Integers With Same Signs   If the signs are the same, the product/quotient will be positive.

Multiplying/Dividing Integers With Different Signs   If the signs are different, the product/quotient will be negative.
