What is inspection?   Lookinging and observing. It starts when you first meet the patient. Begin each phase of the exam with inspecting.

What is surgical asepsis?   Sterile technique, includes practice used to render and keep objects and areas free from microorganisms. Example: inserting an indwelling urinary catheter.

What is a nosocomial infection?   Health care associated infections (HAI) or infections that develop while a patient is in a health care facility.

Name two types of bacterial pathogens on the hands?   Transient and resident

What is the characteristic of transient pathogens?   Loosely attached to skin and under nails.

What is the characteristic of resident pathogens?   Firmly attached to the skin and embedded in creases in the skin.

What is standard precautions?   Precaustion for everyone regardless of their diagnosis or infection.
