What types of bonds does a Saturated Fatty acid contain? C-C single bonds only
What types of bonds does an Unsaturated Fatty acid contain? C-C single bonds with at least one C-C double bond
What makes up a Triglyceride? Glycerol and 3 stearic acid molecules
What makes up a fatty acid molecule? A long hydrocarbon chain and a carboxylic acid
What state is a saturated fat at room temperature? Solid
What happens to a partially hydrogenated fat? The number of double bonds in the fatty acid decreases, and it is transformed from an oil into a semisolid fat.
What state is an unsaturated fat at room temperature? Liquid
What state is a partially hydrogenated fat at room temperature? Semi-solid
What are some types of lipids? Fats and Steroids (such as cholesterol)
