Muscle Tissue

Types of muscle tissue

Skeletal MT (Striated muscle) works with tendons and bones to move the body. Voluntary muscle because we make it contract by conscious thought. Cells are very large, have multiple nuclei and a pattern of dark and light banding or striations.
Cardiac MT (Myocardium) forms the bulk of the heart wall and produces the regular contractions known as heartbeats. Involuntary because it typically contracts independently of thought.
Smooth MT ( Not striated and have one nucleus per cell- Visceral muscle) involuntary muscle, forms the walls of the hollow organs in the ventral body cavities ( stomach, intestines, gallbladder, and urinary bladder)
