Safety vocabulary
Term | Definition |

Hard Hat | a rigid protective helmet, as worn by factory and building workers. |
Ear Plugs | an ornament inserted in the lobe of the ear especially to distend it |
Respirator | an apparatus worn over the mouth and nose or the entire face to prevent the inhalation of dust, smoke, or other noxious substances. |
Vest | a sleeveless, close-fitting waist-length garment worn over a shirt, typically having no collar and buttoning down the front. |
Fire Retardant Jacket | designed to be worn during activities where the wearer will constantly be exposed to flames, radiant heat and potential molten substance splash. |
Face Shield | A device used to protect wearer's entire face (or part of it) from impact hazard such as flying objects and road debris, chemical splashes (in industry), or potentially infectious fluid (in medical). |
Safety Glasses | toughened glasses or goggles for protecting the eyes when using power tools or industrial or laboratory equipment. |
Coveralls | a one-piece protective garment worn for heavy manual work. |
Cut Resistant Gloves | designed to protect the wearer's hands from cuts while working with sharp tools. |
Sleeves | A sleeve is the part of a garment that covers the arm, or through which the arm passes or slips. |
Dust Mask | a flexible pad held over the nose and mouth by elastic or rubber straps to protect against dusts encountered during construction or cleaning activities |
Nomex Hood | a flame retardant meta-aramid material marketed used as a fabric wherever resistance from heat and flame is required. |
Steel Toe Shoes | a durable boot or shoe that has a protective reinforcement in the toe which protects the foot from falling objects or compression |
Boots | a hotel employee who cleans boots and shoes, carries luggage, and performs other menial tasks. |
Chaps | leather pants without a seat, worn by a cowboy over ordinary pants to protect the legs. |
Full Bodysuit | Protect the body from chemicals, toxins, or biological hazards. |
Gloves | a covering for the hand worn for protection against cold or dirt and typically having separate parts for each finger and the thumb. |
Harness | a set of straps which fit under a person's arms and fasten round their body in order to keep a piece of equipment in place or to prevent the person moving from a place. |

Welding helmet | a type of headgear used when performing certain types of welding to protect the eyes, face and neck from flash burn, ultraviolet light, sparks, infrared light, and heat. |
Safety Vest | an article of personal protective equipment that's designed to have high visibility and reflectivity. |
