Cell Voc

Cell The smallest unit of life. All living things are made of cells
Microscope An optical instrument used for viewing very small objects, such as mineral samples or animal or plan cells, typically magnified several hundred times
Organelles A structure that has a specific task or function within the cell
Nucleus A part of a cell that directs all cell activities (the brain or control center of the cell)
Cell Membrane A thin flexible layer around the cells of all living things
Cytoplasm The gel-like material that surrounds the internal part of the cell. The organellels float in it!
Chloroplast Organelle in cytoplasm of plants, responsible for turning sun's energy into food for the plant
Cell Wall Found in plant cells only, it is rigid and surrounds the cell membrane
Function Purpose, what job does it complete
Structure Relating to the physical makeup of a plant or animal body
Magnification Act of making something very small look larger than it is. The microscope helps us do it
DNA The genetic information that directs the main functions of cells
Chromosomes Strands located in the nucleus. Chromosomes contain the DNA and RNA
Genes Parts that make up the DNA
Heredity? The passing on of physical or mental characteristics genetically from one generation to another
Photosynthesis Process by which plants use light energy to make sugar from water and carbon dioxide
Ion An atom or molecule with an electric charge
Eukaryote cells Type of cells in multicelular living things
Vacuole A large organelle commonly found in plants and used for chemical storage
