Chapter 5 vocabulary - 5th grade

compatible numbers numbers that are easy to compute mentally; used for rounding
decimal A number with one or more digits to the right of the decimal point; part of a whole
decimal point a point that separates whole numbers and decimal numbers
dividend the number that is being divided
division the process of sharing a number of items to find how many equal groups can be made or how many items will be in each equal group
divisor the number you divide by
estimate To find a number close to an exact amount; an estimate tells about how much or about how many.
hundredth one of one hundred equal parts
tenth one of ten equal parts
quotient the answer to a division problem
