### Chapter 7 vocabulary - 5th grade

denominator The number below the bar in a fraction. It tells how many equal parts are in the whole.
numerator The part of a fraction above the line, which tells how many parts are being counted.
equivalent fractions two or more fractions that name the same amount
mixed number a number made up of a whole number and a fraction
simplest form the form of a fraction when the numerator and denominator have no common factor other than 1
product the answer to a multiplication problem
factor a number that is multiplied by another number to find a product
common factor a number that is a factor of two or more numbers
expression A mathematical phrase that contains operations, numbers, and/or variables, but no equal sign
equation A mathematical sentence that contains an equals sign.
evaluate to find the value of an expression; solve
