TermDefinition
Scientific Method The procedure (steps) scientist use to help them explain why things happen the way they do.
Problem What you're trying to find out. It is always written in the form of a question.
Hypothesis An educated prediction about what will happen in your experiment. (If ... then...)
Three types of variables Constant Independent Dependent
Constant What you do not change.
Independent What you do change.
Dependent What changes in the response to the changes (independent) variable - Provides you with data.
Test Conduct the experiment and record the data.
Organize Use charts or graphs so you can see the information more clearly.
Conclusion Analyze your data ans summarize your findings (I learned....because....)
Why should I repeat the same experiment over and over? To eliminate (rule out) errors.

Stop watch Measures elapsed time, or how much time has passed.
Ruler Used to determine the length of an object.
Hand lens To observe an object more closely.
Thermometer To determine how warm or cool and object is.
Triple beam balance To measure the amount of matter or mass in something
Graduated cylinder To determine he amount of volume or space something takes up.
Observation Using your senses to collect information.
Inference Using background knowledge or interpreting your observations.
