Relation A mapping or pairing of input values w/ output variables
Domain Set of input values
Range Set of output values
Functions A relation for which each set of input has exactly one output
Equation in 2 Variables An equation w' an independent & dependent variable
Linear Functions A function that can be written as y=mx+b
Parent Function The most basic function in a family of functions
Y-Intercept (0, y)
Slope-Intercept Form An equation of the form y=mx+b with SLOPE= M & the Y-INTERCEPT= B
Standard Form of a Linear Equation Ax+By=C
X-Intercept (x, 0)
Slope The ratio of vertical to horizontal change
Parallel Two lines in a plane that do not intersect
Perpendicular Two lines in a plane that intersect to form a right angle (opp. reciprocal)
Rate of Change How much one quality changes, on average, relative to the change in another quantity
Absolute Value Function f(x) = |x|
Vertex of AVF Highest or lowest point on the graph
Transformation Changes graph size, shape, position or orientation
Translation Shifts a graph vertically or horizontally
Reflection When a=-1, the graph y=a|x| is a reflection of y=|x| in the x-axis
