adaptation The process by which a species becomes better suited to its environment
axis an imaginary line about which a body rotates
carnivore an animal that feeds on other animals (meat eater)
community a group of people living in the same place or having a particular characteristic in common
condensation change of matter from a gas to a liquid
consumer a person or thing that eats or uses something
decomposer An organism that feeds on and breaks down dead plant or animal matter
ecosystem all the living things, from plants and animals to microscopic organisms, that share an environment
environment The surroundings or conditions in which a person, animal, or plant lives or operates
equator An imaginary line around the Earth that forms the northern and southern hemispheres
erosion the process by which the surface of the earth is worn away by the action of water, glaciers, winds, waves, etc.
