Exp. Design-gr. 7

Experimental Design Vocab grade 7

TermDefinition
Problem question is the problem you are trying to solve in an experiment, written as a question.
Hypothesis a predicted answer to a scientific problem based on observations and/ or research.
Variable factors in an experiment that can change
Independent Variable the factor that is changed on purpose by the experimenter; also called the manipulated variable.
Dependent Variable is the factor that responds to the independent variable; these are factors that you measure or observe as data
Constants variables in an experiment that are kept the same in an experiment; this is done so that they do not affect the outcome (results)
Repeated Trials the number of times an experiment is tested. The more an experiment is tested, the more reliable the results.
Controlled Experiment an experiment where the person(s) doing the experiment tests only one variable at a time to see how it affects the results (DV); it's a standard for comparison.
Levels of the independent variable the way(s) in which the independent variable is changed by the experimenter
Ms. Solari ;) The best 7B science teacher you ever had. :0
scientific method The process by which scientists answer questions and solve problems is known as the ___.
*procedure *steps to follow when performing an experiment
*analyze data *figure out what the collected information means
*make observations/do research *what you should do before you form a hypothesis
*draw conclusions *use the results to determine the answer to the problem
* ASTERISK MEANS IT IS NOT ON QUIZ, BUT NEED TO BE FAMILIAR * ASTERISK MEANS IT IS NOT ON QUIZ, BUT NEED TO BE FAMILIAR
