A tropical storm in which the wind speeds are 119 km/hr or more is called a __________________. hurricane
____________________ is the process by which a liquid changes to a gas. Evaporation
An instrument that measures wind speed is an _______________. anemometer
____________________ is water that falls back to the earth. Precipitation
The process by which a gas changes into a liquid is called___________________. condensation
What kind of precipitation falls when water drops get pushed back up into a colder layer of air and then freeze? Hail
Where do most storms form? At fronts

What kind of precipitation falls when water drops pass through a cold layer of air. Sleet
What kind of precipitation may fall when the temperature is 42 degrees fahrenhiet? Rain
What kind of precipitation may fall when the temperature is 20 degrees fahrenheit? Snow
Where does a cold/dry air mass form? over land, form the north
Name 4 weather instruments and what each one measures. anemometer - wind speed barometer - air pressure thermometer - temperature rain guage - amount of rainfall wind vane - wind direction
What happens to water that is heated? it evaporates
Where does a warm/wet air front form? over water, from the south
What happens to water vapor when it is cooled? it condenses, it may freeze if the temperature gets low enough
Where does a cold/wet air mass form? over water, from the north
Where does a warm/dry air mass form? over land, from the south
How is a land breeze formed? Air over the water is warmer that air over the land. The hot air over the water rises and the cooler air over the land pushes out over the sea.
How is a sea breeze formed? Air over the water is cooler than air over the land. The hot air over the land rises and the cooler air over the water pushes in over the land.
