Why are trans fatty acids bad for your health? Research shows that trans fatty acids increase the amount of bad cholesterol which can clog blood vessels, increasing the risk of heart attacks and strokes.
Which two alcohols are usually reacted with triglycerides to produce biodiesel, and why? Methanol or ethanol, as they're easy to manufacture, cheap, renewable and they burn efficiently.
What are the cons of using biodiesel as a fuel? Producing large quantities would mean devoting huge areas of land to growing biodiesel crops rather than food crops; this could mean less food produced to prices riseetc. AND Diesel engines generally need converting before they can run on 100% biodiesel.
What is the catalyst used for the production of biodiesel? KOH (potassium hydroxide).
