Sequences, Patterns, and Functions

TermDefinition
Sequence An ordered set of numbers or other data arranged based on a rule.
Arithmetic Sequence An ordering of numbers where the next term is found by ADDING the SAME number to the previous term.
Geometric Sequence An ordering of numbers where the next term is found by MULTIPLYING the SAME number to the previous term.
Common Ratio The number used to find the next term in a geometric sequence.
Common Difference The number used to find the next term in an arithmetic sequence.
Function A relationship where one things depends on another. Each "x" value has only one "y" value.
Relation A set of ordered pairs.
Pattern A repeated design or sequence.
Consecutive Numbers that follow each other in an unbroken sequence.
Domain The set of input values. OR the set of "x" values.
Range The set of output values. OR the set of "y" values.
Input The "x" value or the domain.
Output The "y" value or the range. The result or solution to an input after an operation is performed.
T-Chart An organized way to list separate pieces of data or information.
Term A part of an expression separated by on operation, equal sign, or an inequality symbol. Also each part (element) of a sequence.
