What is a boundary or border? a line that people agree on that divides on place from another
What 5 states border New York? Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, New Jersey, Pennsylvania
What rivers border New York? Niagara River, Delaware River
What lakes border New York? Lake Champlain, Lake Erie, Lake Ontario
What country borders New York? Canada
What is a hemisphere? Half a sphere
Name the 4 hemispheres. Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western
What is the equator? An imaginary line that lies halfway between the North Pole and the South Pole at 0 degree latitude
What is the Prime Meridian? The line of longitude, marked 0 degrees, that runs north and south through Greenwich, England
What are the cardinal directions? North, south, east, west
What are the intermediate directions? Northwest, northeast, southwest, southeast
What is a compass rose? A small drawing on a map that shows directions
What is a scale on a map key (legend) used for? To show the relationship between the distance of places on a map and the actual distance on Earth
What are the 5 types of maps? Political, physical, landform, transportation, historical
What does a political map show? Information such as boundaries, cities, capitals, states and countries
What does a physical map show? The natural features of Earth
What does a landform map show? The land forms of an area
What does a transportation map show? How to get from one place to another
What does a historical map show? Information about past events and where they occurred
Name the 7 continents. Africa, Antarctica, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America.
Name the 4 oceans. Pacific Ocean, Atlantic Ocean, Arctic Ocean and Indian Ocean
