Term | Definition |
---|---|

circle (p329) | The set of points in a plane that are a given distance from a given point in the plane |

center (p329) | The given point from which all points on a circle are the same distance. |

distance (p329) | The length of the segment between two points. |

radius (p329) | The straight line from the center to the circumference of a circle or sphere. |

segment (p329) | Part of a line connecting two points |

chord (p329) | A segment whose endpoints lie on a circle |

secant (p329) | A line that contains a chord |

diameter (p329) | A chord that contains the center of a circle |

tangent of a circle (p329) | A line in the plane of the circle that intersects the circle in exactly one point |

point of tangency (p329) | The one and only one point where a line, ray, or segment in the plane of the circle intersects the circle. |

sphere (p329) | The set of all points in space that are a given distance from a given point |

congruent circles (p330) | Circles that have congruent radii. |

congruent spheres (p330) | Spheres that have congruent radii |

concentric circles (p330) | Circles that lie in the same plane and have the same center |

concentric spheres (p330) | Spheres that have the same center |

inscribed in a circle, inscribed polygon (p330) | A polygon placed inside a circle so that all the vertices of the polygon lie on the circumference of the circle. |

circumscribed about the polygon, circumscribed circle (p330) | A circle placed outside a polygon so that all the vertices of the polygon lie on the circumference of the circle. |

great circle (p331) | The intersection of a sphere with any plane passing through the center of the sphere. |
