GCSE C1- Products from Rocks

What does the Nucleus of an atom contain? Protons and Neutrons
The majority of the mass of an atom is concentrated where? In the Nucleus
How big is the nucleus compared with the whole atom? Tiny
What subatomic particle decides what the atom is? Protons
What is an element? Something that contains only one type of atom
What are atoms represented by? Symbols
What are vertical columns in the periodic table called? Groups
Elements in the same group have... Similar Properties
The reactivity of Group 1 to Group 6... Increases
What happens when two different elements react? They form chemical bonds with other atoms and make compounds
How do atoms form chemical bonds? By giving, taking or sharing electrons (nothing to do with the nuclei of the atoms)
What can be used to write symbol equations for reactions? Formulas
What is the difference between mixtures and compounds? Mixtures can be easier seperated
Why can mixtures be easily seperated? There are no chemical bonds between the different atoms so they can be seperated by physical methods
