Scientific Model | a physical or mental idea that allows us to create explanations of how something may work |
Adaptation | a trait or behavior that helps an organism survive and reproduce in a particular environment. |
Natural selection | the process that explains survival through adaptation, and shows how species of animals can change over time. |
Climate | an ever-changing condition of Earth’s environment |
Epicenter | the point of Earth’s surface directly above where the energy is released in an earthquake. Energy that reaches the surface is greatest at this point. |
Minerals | natural, solid materials found on Earth. They are the building blocks of rock and each has a certain chemical make-up. |
Vibration | a repeated back-and-forth or up-and-down motion. |
Frequency | a measure of how often something (like waves) pass a point in a certain amount of time. |
Refraction | a bending of waves (like light) caused by a change in their speed as they pass from one medium to another. |
Reflection | the bouncing back of a wave when it meets a surface or boundary that does not absorb the entire wave’s energy. |
