Fontanel:Soft spot in infants cranium
Covered in fibrous membrane, allows head to pass through birth canal:Fontanel
Synarthrosis:Fibrous joints bound together by short collagen fibers
Little to no movement:Synarthrosis joints
3 Types of Synarthrosis:Sutures, Gomphoses, Syndesmoses
Sutures:Joints between cranial bones
Gomphoses:Joint between tooth & mandable/Maxilla
Syndesmoses:Joint between Ulna & Radius; Allows some give but move as one unit
Little to no movement:Synarthrosis
Amphiarthrosis:2 bones liked by cartilage
Some movement:Amphiarthrosis
2 types of Amphiarthrosis:Synchondrosis; Symphysis
Synchondrosis:Joints joined by hylene cartilage
Examples of synchondrosis:First rib & sternum; Metaphysis of long bone
Symphysis:Bound by fibrous cartilage
Examples of Symphysis:Pubic bone (birth); Joints between vertebrae
Diarthrosis:Synovial Joints

Bursa:Fibrous sac filled synovial fluid; Cushions bones & allows tendons to slide over joint
Examples of bursa:Shoulders/Knees; High impact joints
Types of Diarthrosis movement:Ball & Socket; Hinge; Pivot; Saddle; Condyloid; Gliding
Ball & Socket:Shoulder & Hips
Hinge joint:One direction; Knee/Elbow
Pivot:Head of radius
Saddle Joint:Thumb;Trapezoid/Metacarpal
Condyloid:Metacarpals & philanges (knuckles)
Gliding:Wrists/Ankles; Flat joints
