electricity | a form of energy that is created when electrons are carried through wires and used to operate machines, lights, etc. (electric current) |
electromagnet | a magnet created by wrapping a current-carrying wire around an iron core |
electric motor | a device that uses a magnetic field to turn electrical energy into mechanical-kinetic energy (electricity --> motion) |
generator | a device that uses a magnetic field to turn mechanical-kinetic energy into electrical energy (motion --> electricity) |
turbine | a huge wheel that rotates when pushed by wind, water, or steam |
electric circuit | a closed, conducting loop in which an electric current can flow continually |
manipulated variable | the variable that you MEAN to change between test groups |
independent variable | the variable that you observe or measure (as a result of the manipulated variable) |
