Term | Definition |
height | the measurement of vertical distance |
width | the measurement or extent of something from side to side |
depth | the distance from the top or surface of something to its bottom |
face | the outside flat surface of an object |
edge | the line where two faces come together on a shape |
base | usually the bottom of a three-dimensional object (sometimes the top) |
attributes | different features of a shape |
cylinder | one of the most basic curvilinear geometric shapes |
prisms | solid objects with identical ends, flat faces, and the same cross section all along its length |
cube | three-dimensional solid object bounded by six square faces with three meeting at each vertex |
cone | a three-dimensional geometric shape that tapers smoothly from a flat base to a point called the vertex |
pyramids | three-dimensional figures that have a polygon for a base and have a single vertex that is not in the plane of the polygon base |
vertex | the point where all of the edges of a pyramid meet/the point of a cone |
surface | the curved outside (or face) of a cone or cylinder |
surface area | the sum of all the areas of the faces, bases, and surfaces of a three-dimensional shape |
pentagon | any five-sided polygon |
triangle | polygon with three edges and three vertices |
square | a plane figure with four equal straight sides and four right angles |
parallelogram | a flat shape with opposite sides parallel and equal in length |
polyhedron | a complex shape that is made up of many faces that have identical shapes |
hexagon | a polygon with six edges and six vertices |
octagon | a plane figure with eight straight sides and eight angles |
circle | a round plane figure whose boundary consists of points equidistance from a fixed point |
area | the size of a surface |
radius | the length of a line segment from a circle or sphere's center to its perimeter |
slant height | height of a triangle face |
