Term | Definition |
Base | The number to be multiplied times itself using the value of an exponent |
Exponent | A small umber placed to the upper-right of a number that shows the number of times the base number is multiplied times itself |
Factor | A whole number that divides exactly into another number |
Factor Tree | A diagram used to identify the prime factors of a composite number |
Prime | A number that has exactly 2 factors |
Composite | A number that has 3 or more factors |
Integers | A positive number, negative number, or zero, but NOT a fraction or decimal |
Expression | Symbols, numbers, variables, operations, and grouping symbols representing a number or quantity |
Operations | There are four basic - addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division |
Order of Operations | The order in which operations should be done to solve an equation |
Power of | The number of times a base number is multiplied times itself |
Prime Factorization | To write a number as a product of its prime factors (a bottom line of a factor tree) |
Repeated Multiplication | Multiplying the same number over and over again |
Simplify an Expression | To remove brackets, unnecessary terms, and numbers |
