Question | Answer |
Equation | Says two things are equal. Example: 2+2=9-5 |
Equals Sign | Shows what is on the left is equal to what is on the right. Example: 2+2=4 |
Solve | To find the answer to an equation. Example: 3+6=9 |
Solution | A value that you put in place of a variable. Example: 3+y=9 y=6 3+6=9 |
Inverse Operation | The operation that reverses the effect of another operation. Example: 3*4=12 12/4=3 |
Addition Property of Equality | When you add the same number to each side, they both are still equal. Example: 2+5 +5 |+5 |
Division Property of Equality | You divide both sides of the equation with a nonzero number Example: 10/5=2 10/5=2 5/5=1 2/1=2 |
Coefficient | A number that is used to multiply by a variable. Example: 4c=8 Coefficient=4 |
Multiplication of Property of Equality | You can multiply each side of the problem by the same number and have it be equal. Example: 10*2=20 10*5=50 2*5=10 |
Inequality | A mathematical sentence that compares quantities Example: 1<5 6>1 |
