Term | Definition |
Direct discrimination | Where someone is treated less favourably because of his disability, than others would be treated. |
Indirect discrimination | If a discriminatory practice is applied to everyone but it puts the disabled person at a disadvantage and it cannot be shown to be a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate purpose. |
Harassment | An unwanted conduct related to disability and the conduct violates dignity or creates an intimidating hostile degrading humiliating or offensive environment. |
Victimisation | Where one person treats another detrimentally because they have asserted legal rights under the Equality Act or they have helped someone else to do so. |
Reasonable adjustments | Where an institution’s provision puts a disabled person at a substantial disadvantage compared to a non disabled person, reasonable steps must be taken to avoid the disadvantage |
