Question | Answer |
Latitude | Imaginary line that circles the Earth, parallel to the equator, distance measured from South to North |
Longitude | Distance measured East to West from an imaginary line called the prime meridian |
Relief/topography | The shape and surface of the land (height as well) |
Contour | A contour is a line on a map that joins points that are the same elevation/altitude |
Cape | A cape is a headland or large piece of land that extends into a large area of water (usually the sea) eg. Cape of good hope (South Africa) |
Isthmus | A narrow piece of land in between two pieces of big land |
Strait | A narrow piece of water that is in between two pieces of land |
Gulf | A gulf of a portion of an ocean or sea that is partly enclosed by land(like a large bay) eg. Gulf of Alaska and gulf of Mexico |
Plateau | High line, flat land |
Plain | Low line, flat land |
Archipelago | A group of islands |
Altitude/elevation | Height above sea level. The height that something is above. A reference point - usually height above sea level in feet or meters |
