Anatomy Description
Hip Bone has what parts?Ilium, Ischium, Pubis
Ilium: region and its partsThe superior portion of the hip one, consists of: Body, Ala, Iliac crest, anterior superior iliac spine, anterior inferior iliac spine, posterior superior iliac spine, posterior inferior iliac spine, greater sciatic notch, iliac fossa, auricular surface.
Ischium: region and its partsischial tuberosity, body, ischial ramus, ischial spine, obturator foramen
Pubis: region and its partsanterior portion; Body, superior pubic ramus, inferior pubic ramus, pubic tubercle
Body of the iliumthe thickest portion that helps form the acetabulum
Ala (wing)the upper expanded wing-like portion
iliac crestILIUM: expanded upper edge or border of the ala
anterior superior iliac spineILIUM: anterior projection marking the beginning of the iliac crest
anterior inferior iliac spineILIUM: a small projection just below or inferior to the anterior superior iliac spine
posterior superior iliac spineILIUM: posterior projection marking the end of the iliac crest
posterior inferior iliac spoineILIUM: a small projection just below the posterior superior iliac spin
greater sciatic notchILIUM: a deep indentation on the posterior margin just below the poterior inferior iliac spoine
iliac fossaILIUM: a smooth slight concave surface between the anterior and medial borders
auricular surfaceILIUM: an ear-shaped roughened surface on the medial border for an articulation with the sacrum
Ischial tuberositythe lower rounded edge, roughened for muscular attachment of the hamstring muscles
Body of Ischiumthickest portion that fuses with the ilium and the pubis to form the acetabulum
Iscial ramusISCHIUM: an anterior projection from the iscial tuberosity which fuses with the inferior ramus of the pubis to form the lower border of the obturator foramen
iscial spineISCHIUM: a small pointed projection posteriorly just below the greater sciatic notch
obturator foramenISCHIUM: a large circular opening formed by the joining of the iscial ramus and the inferior pubic ramus
PUBIS: region of the hip bone and its parts?anterior portion of the hip bone; has: body, superior pubic ramus, inferior pubic ramus, and pubic tubercle
Body of Pubisfusses with the ilium and the iscium to form the acetabulum
superior pubic ramusprojects upward and laterally from the body
inferior pubic ramusa short bar that extends backward or posteriorly from the body
pubic tuberclea small bump at the medial edge of the superior pubic ramus
ACETABULUMa cupshaped cavity formed by the fusion of the ilium, iscium, and pubic bones. the cup shape has an indentation inferiorly, called the acetabular notch. The head of the femur fits into the acetabulum to form the hip joint.
pelvic girdle: formed by whattwo hip bones, joined anteriorly at the pubic symphysis, separated behind by sacrum, where they articulate. Pelvic girdle and sacrum form bony pelvis
acetabular notcha cup shape with an inferior indentation
