Basic terms and definitions for an Algebra 1 class

Equation | An equation says that two things are equal. It will have an equals sign "="

Variables | a symbol for a number we don't know yet, it is usually a letter

Constant | A number on its own

Coefficient | a number used to multiply a variable

Operator | s a symbol (such as +, ×, etc) that represents an operation

Term | either a single number or a variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together.

Expression | a group of terms

Exponent | how many times to use the value in a multiplication

Polynomial | terms that can have constants, variables and the exponents

Like Terms | terms whose variables are the same

Review the information in the table. When you are ready to quiz yourself you can hide individual columns or the entire table. Then you can click on the empty cells to reveal the answer. Try to recall what will be displayed before clicking the empty cell.
To hide a column, click on the column name.

Or sort by any of the columns using the down arrow next to any column heading.
