Contrast women’s roles in medicine today with those of the past.   In early history if women were caught practicing medicine they were hung as witches. During recent history there is an average of 30% of the physician population that are female and averages of 50% of medical students are women by the year 2010.

Why is there a push toward more outpatient care?   There is a push toward outpatient care because it is cheaper for the patient and more cost efficient to run.

Define managed care.   Managed Care - Managed care is a general term that refers to a case-management approach to providing medical services, with a focus on quality health care and cost containment. (Refer to slide 6)

Define insurer.   Insurer – The insurer is the company or organization that helps the insured pay for their medical expenses.

Define insured.   Insured – The insured are the people paying a portion of their medical expenses because they hold an insurance policy. AKA: policyholder

Define deductible.   Deductible – The amount you pay in order to receive medical reimbursement.

Define claim.   Claim – A claim is a form that the physicians or hospitals fill out in order to receive reimbursment for medical treatment or procedures.

What are the two major components of computers?   The major components of computers are hardware (brains) and software (programs).
