Vision Statement   Short statement describing the ideal form you aspire your organization to be  
Mission Statement   Written expression of an organization's philosophy, purposes, and characteristics  
Planning   Type of decision-making process where a course of action is determined to bring about the future state of affairs  
Strategic Planning   A type of planning involving self examination to bring about improvement  
Accreditation   Formal recognition provided to an organization indicating that it meets certain standards  
JCAHO   Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization (oldest and largest helath care standards organization)  
CARF   Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (non profit agency that sets quality standards for rehab facilities  
Forecast   Prediction of future conditions based on statistics and indicators that described the past and present of the program  
WOTS UP analysis   Data collection and appraisal technique designed to determine an organization's strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats in order to facilitate planning  
Operational plan   Plan that defines group activities in the short term  
Policy   Plan that expresses an organization's behavior relative to a specific group function  
Process   Collection of steps that direct important tasks of the organization  
Procedure   Type of operational plan that gives directions to members of the group to follow  
Practice   Action that takes place due to administrative problems  
PERT   Program evaluation and review technique (method of graphically depicting the time line for the relationships formed of different stages of a program)  
Gannt chart   Graphic planning and control technique that maps discrete tasks on a calendar  
Agreement-trust matrix   A model that identifies and types the most important people in developing support for a plan  
Allies   People who exhibit a high level of support for a plan  
Opponents   People who support a particular program but argue against a plan related to that program  
Bedfellows   People who exhibit support for a particular plan but have a history of being untrustworthy  
Adversaries   People who are unsupportive of both the program and a particular plan regarding the program  
Proceedings   Book containing the abstracts or outlines of each speaker's presentation  
Program evaluation   Systematic and comprehensive assessment of the worth of a particular program  
Internal audit chart   Patient records review technique performed by the staff for quality assurance  
External audit chart   Patient records review technique, performed by accreditation agency to ensure minimum standards are being met  
Carrier   Charge based providers contracted by the government to review Medicare claims made by doctors or other health care providers  
Intermediary   Cost-based providers contracted by the government to review Medicare claims made by hospitals  
Summative evaluation   Assessment designed primarily to describe the effectiveness or accomplishments of a program  
Formative evaluation   Assessment designed primarily for improvement of a program  
External evaluators   Experts not affiliated with an organization who are retained to assess the various programs within the organization  
Goals   General statements of program intent  
Objectives   Specific statements of how a program intends to accomplish a particular goal  
Criteria   Quantifiable measures used to determine whether a particular objective has been accomplished  
Outcomes assessment   Evaluation method used in health care that seeks objective evidence that the care provided by the athletic trainer enhanced a patient's functional ability
