Spleen Functions

Spleen Functions and Description - Chinese Medicine

FunctionDescription
Governs Transformation and Transportation Transforms ingested food and drink (basis for production of Qi and Blood). Transports Gu Qi and other refined parts of food (food essences) to the various organs and parts of the body
Controls Blood Holding it within its proper pathways. SP plays an inportant role in making/producing Blood
Controls muscles and the Four limbs Nouishes all tissues in the body with refined Qi (through transportation function). State of SP in one of the most important factors in determining the amouth of physical energy a person has.
Opens to the Mouth Chewing prepares food for the Spleen. Mouth hhas a functional relationship with Spleen.
Manifests in the lips Normal Lips
Controls "Raising Qi" Ascending action of Spleen. Clear Qi ascends to HT adn LU. Turbid Qi Descends to LR and KI (hormornal Fx)
Houses Yi (Thought) Spleen influences capacity for thinking, studying, concentrating, focusing, and memorizing
