Magnesium and sodium containing antacids can cause diarrhea

Aluminum and Calcium may cause constipation

Reglan (metroclopramide) 791

Class: Antiemetic GI stimulant

Action: prevents nausea and vomiting

Contraindications: GI hemorrhage

Averse Effects: Restlessness, drowsiness, Nausea and Diarrhea. May alter insulin.

Ilopan (dexpanthenol) 389

Class: GI stimulant

Indication: Tx postpartum retention of flatus, and paralytic ileus.

Adverse reaction: nausea, vomiting, fever, low blood pressure, and intestinal colic 1/2 hour after administration.
