Functions of Muscles: Attach to bones to provide voluntary movement Produce heat and energy Help maintain posture Protect internal organs

Muscle Tone: Partiall contracted at all times Muscle tone allows for state of readiness Loss of muscle tone- Paralysis, contracture permanant shorting of flexer muscle

Diseases and Abnormal Conditions: Muscle spasms and cramps- Sudden painful involuntary Contractions of muscles Strain- Overstreching or injury to a muscle or tendons
