Where are lipoproteins made? What is their job? intestinal mucosa and liver. These proteins are found in the plasma and transport cholesterol and triglycerides to areas of utilization and storage
Definition of cholesterol? Dietary lipid synthesized by the body
Def of triglyceride? Dietary lipid used by body
What are the five types of lipoproteins? Chylomicrons. VLDL. LDL. IDL. HDL.
What causes raised levels of lipoproteins? Diets high in sat fat and cholesterol.
Explain chylomicron. Large lipoprotein molecule created by absolrpion of lipids by the cells in the small intestine. They transport lipids to adipose tissue to be broken down by lipoprotein lipase.
Rank the 4 lipoproteins (skip IDL) from most triglyceride content to least. Most triglyceride is in Chylomicrons > VLDL > LDL > HDL. Least triglyceride is in HDL. So chylomicrons are all fat no muscle (protein)
Rank the 4 lipoproteins (skip IDL) from most protein content to least. HDL has most protein > LDL> VLDL > Chylomicron So HDLs are all muscle (protein) and little fat.
Rank the 4 lipoproteins (skip IDL) from most cholesterol content to least. LDL have a lot of cholesterol > HDL > chylomicron
Purpose of drug treatment decrease in plaque formation and regression of existing plaque
4 MOA of antihyperlipidemics 1. decrease Lipoprotein production 2. Increase degradation 3. Increase cholesterol removal 4. Decrease absorption from other sources
