Integumentary system consists of 2 layers; epidermis and dermis. Epidermis- stratified squamous epithelium derived from ectoderm. Dermis- dense connective tissue derived from mesoderm. Hypodermis- not part of skin but often considered with it. -located beneath dermis -contains varying amounts of adipose tissue divided by septa -equivalent to superficial or subcutaneous fascia
