| Daoism's impact on China | This belief led to the warring states period at the end of the Zhou Dynasty and caused China to become very disorganized and chaotic. |
| Legalism | the belief that people are bad and must be told what to do and be punished if they break rules. In a government this belief would mean having strict laws, harsh punishments and keeping out ideas that the ruler does not like. |
| Legalism's impact on China | This belief helped Emperor Qin re-unite China although not always by doing good things. It led to order in China and the standardization of laws, money, measurements, language and ideas by burning many books and records. |
