Term Definition
Density  Density = Mass/Volume  
Meter  The Metric base unit for measuring length.  
Gram  The Metric base unit for measuring mass.  
Condensation  Water converting from a gas to a liquid state.  
Volume  The Metric measurement for the amount of space an object takes up.  
Independent Variable  The variable in an experiment that the scientist controls.  
Dependent Variable  The variable that changes with the Independent variable.  
Controls  Experimental states that stay the same throughout the experiment.

Youthfull River System  Fast, clear, rocky bottom rivers usually found in mountainous regions.  
Mature River System  Medium size rivers with meanders, sediment load, and tributaries.  
Old Age River Systems  Large, wide, slow rivers with long meanders and oxbow lakes due to heavy sediment load.  
Meanders  The side to side movement of rivers due to erosion and sediment deposits.  
Erosion  The transportation of soils due to the movement of water.  
Condensation  The change of water from a gas to a liquid state.

Continental Slope  Ocean floor dropping off to the Continental Rise.  
Continental Rise  The Ocean floor extending from the slope to the Abyssal Plain.  
Abyssal Plain  The deep Ocean floor extending from the Continental Rise.  
Mid Oceanic Ridge  A long series of volcanic mountains crated at a Divergent Boundary.  
Rift Valley  A long valley series located in the middle of a Mid Oceanic Ridge.  
Trench  A deep ocean area created at a Subduction Zone.  
Zooplankton  Animal like plankton  
Phytoplankton  Plant like plankton  
Benthos  Bottom dwelling ocean life  
Nekton  Free swimming ocean life  
Plankton  Small invisible creatures living near the ocean surface.  
SONAR  Technique used to measure ocean depth.  
Surface Current  Ocean water movement due to wind, the Coriolis Effect, and Continental deflection  
Tsunami  Large wave created by earthquakes near the ocean floor.  
Ocean Waves  Ocean water movement caused by wind.  
Sodium Cloride  The most abundant molecule in the oceans.
