Word Definition
Behavior   An action taken in an environemnt; the way an organism acts to survive within an environemnt  
Flat Teeth   A way to identify an animal that eats only plants (herbivores)  
Genes   Sets of instructions inside a cell that determine physical traits of an organism (what it looks like, etc)  
Generations   All of the offspring that are from a common ancestor; example: a mother and daughters represent two generations.  
Genetics   The study of heredity and variation in organisms   
Heredity   The passing on of qualities (such as appearance or intelligence) from parents to children  
Inherited Trait   Features (both structural and behavioral) that are passed from parent to offsring through genes ; example: eye color, knowing how to breathe, height  
Instinct   A behavioral trait that is inherited from parent to offspring; instincts are not taught ; example: pulling hand away from a hot object  
Learned/Acquired Behavior   Actions that are learned as an organism interacts with the environment ; example: walking, talking, hunting  
Sharp Teeth   A way to identify a meat-eating animal (carnivores)
