Chloroplast A plastid in the cells of green plants and green algae that contains chlorophylls and creates glucose through photosynthesis.
Mitochondria An organelle in the cytoplasm of cells that functions in energy production.
Biotic Factors in an environment include the organisms themselves. Example: animals, plants, and bacteria.
Abiotic Factors in an environment that are not living which include such items as sunlight,temperature, wind patterns, and precipitation.
Terrestrial Growing on land; not aquatic.
Aquatic Living or growing in water.
Population The collection of a specific type of organism living in a given area.
Community A group of organisms or populations living and interacting with one another in a particular environment.
Biome A complex biotic community characterized by distinctive plant and animal species and maintained under the climatic conditions of the region, especially such a community that has developed to climax.
Ecosystem A system involving the interactions between a community of living organisms in a particular area and its nonliving environment.
